The Idaho State Journal, with journalist Jimmy Hancock, presents coverage that includes video material:
According to police reports cited by the Idaho State Journal, U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Ryan Douglas Nelson stands accused on two criminal counts—misdemeanor battery and malicious injury to property—allegedly by swiping a man’s glasses from his face, sending them flying across an asphalt lot, and stomping on them during an April altercation over a parking space in Idaho Falls…
The person described as the victim contends that Nelson’s pickup was parked with most of the vehicle occupying one space, its right-front tire and bumper crossing the boundary lines into the adjacent space on the right, while the rear portion of the truck exceeded the line into the space to the left, effectively blocking three spots in front of nearby stores.
When the claimant was stepping out of his white pickup, Nelson started his own truck to depart the space. The claimant states he spoke up.
“I told him to learn how to park,” the claimant recalled. “I repeated it twice. That is when things allegedly spiraled.” …
“In interviews, Nelson reportedly admitted he knocked the glasses from the claimant’s head but insisted he did not touch the man directly. He also acknowledged stomping on the glasses,” according to a police officer’s sworn statement.
