The FOI investigates “racism in digital environments” – and the Resistance Movement

RESISTANCE MOVEMENT. The FOI, which has a history of trying to defame the Resistance Movement, has been tasked with investigating “racism in digital environments”. “Anti-Semitism” is first on the list of types of racism it will investigate.

Almost four years have passed since the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) presented its report “White Hatred: Radical Nationalism in Digital Environments”. As described later in this article, the study is largely devoted to presenting a distorted depiction of the Nordic Resistance Movement. The new report, which the government has instructed the FOI to write, will focus on “racism” in various “Sweden-related digital environments”. In the project, the FOI will collaborate with the Jewish interest organisation, the Forum for Living History, among others.

The contractors of the report – the government – believe there is a need for an overview of “the various expressions of racism in people’s use of the internet in their everyday lives”. They therefore want to investigate which mechanisms are at work when people “suffer from racism in their digital activities”. In addition to “radical nationalist environments”, the Swedish National Defence Institute has previously investigated “digital hatred of journalists”. Several of the people behind those studies have connections to the political left and asylum seeker activist groups.

The new investigation is planned to consist of two main sections:

  • Racism: a measure of the degree of its existence
  • An analysis of how the identified racism is expressed in various Swedish digital contexts

An expression of racism?

All forms of “racism” are not worth equal investigation

The list of types of racism the government feels it is most important to address guarantees that this report will also be largely dedicated to the Nordic Resistance Movement.

In the study, special focus will be placed on the following types of racism:

  • Anti-Semitism
  • Anti-gypsyism
  • Afrophobia
  • Islamophobia
  • Racism against Samis

According to the government, a “gender equality and child rights perspective” must be adopted for each type examined.

The FOI’s assignment includes collaboration with “other relevant actors” such as the Forum for Living History, the police authorities and the Swedish Media Council. They state that an important reason for this requirement is to achieve maximum dissemination of the investigation’s data and conclusions.

In the same press release, the Minister for Gender Equality Märta Stenevi (MP) comments on the assignment for the FOI as follows:

“Digital environments are an important part of our everyday lives, and we therefore require knowledge about the extent of racism on platforms that many of us use every day. We also need better tools to prevent and counter racism online…”

The FOI will present the study by 1 November 2022, at the latest.

The FOI’s previous description of the Resistance Movement

This is not the first time the FOI has investigated racism on the internet. In November 2017, it presented the study “White Hatred: Radical Nationalism in Digital Environments”, which largely focuses on “racism”. In this report, a highly distorted description of the Nordic Resistance Movement, as well as an attack on the organisation, plays a central role. The sections of the report that deal with the Resistance Movement focus extensively on Nordfront and its written contents. At the time, motstandsrörelsen.se and nordicresistancemovement.org did not exist, and Nordfront was the official website of the Nordic Resistance Movement.

In order to achieve the most negative possible image of the Resistance Movement, the study’s authors employ various techniques, such as the following:

  • Negative bias – for example, using what they call “dispute markers”; i.e., scare quotes, around words or phrases, or by using terms like “so-called” and “what they call”.
  • Distorting facts – the reproduction of a person’s unfounded accusations against the Resistance Movement, without any explanatory analysis of them.
  • Outright lies.

After applying these techniques in their report, the authors then accuse the Resistance Movement of using the same techniques in its propaganda.

Negative bias

In the report, scare quotes are mostly placed around words such as mass immigration, population replacement, racial alien and traitors. They are also used for phrases that express an evaluation that the FOI does not share. However, the use of scare quotes is not acceptable if they are used by “Nazis”. On page 34, under the heading “Nordfront and the Holocaust”, it reads:

“On the Nordic Resistance Movement’s website Nordfront, dispute markers are chiefly used with terms relating to the Holocaust, Nazism and democracy.

“Putting the term Holocaust in dispute markers is a way of showing disagreement with the existence of the Holocaust – that is, the genocide, primarily of Jews, that occurred during the Second World War.”

They note here that even though “Holocaust denial” is not illegal in Sweden, the EU considers it to be a crime:

“In 1994, the European Parliament adopted a resolution (B4-0261/94) on xenophobia, racism and anti-Semitism. In the resolution, the European Parliament declares its position: that denial of the Holocaust within the EU must be considered a crime, and that it calls on the member states of the European Union to adapt their legislation so it also covers this form of racist propaganda.”

Distortion of facts and outright lies

Page 38 explains that the activities of the NRM and its predecessor the SRM (the Swedish Resistance Movement) are characterised by “peaceful demonstrations and leaflet distribution, combined with violent attacks on anti-racist meetings”. No examples of such attacks are given in the text – because none exist.

NRM public action
A leaflet distribution without a “violent attack”…

They also write that the Nordic Resistance Movement has been “accused of threatening politicians with violence” and cite the unproven and absurd accusations that the Resistance Movement was behind a firebomb attack on the Social Democrat politician Pierre Esbjörnsson in Skurup, stating that a Tyr rune was painted on his house during the incident. Here, they add that the Resistance Movement “distanced itself from the attack via its editorial staff on its official website Nordfront”.

Considering the way the FOI treated the Nordic Resistance Movement in its report on “radical nationalism in digital environments”, and the Council of Legislation’s current proposal to ban “participation in, or support for, racist organisations” – which shows signs of being geared towards our organisation – it is reasonable to expect that the forthcoming report on “racism” and “anti-Semitism” will also detail the threat we pose to the system. In November next year, we will receive the answer in black and white.

Double public actions in Skåne

ACTIVISM. On Saturday, 2 October, Sweden’s Nest 3 held public leaflet distributions in both Svedala and Vellinge. The activists received a particularly high level of support from the public. The day ended with the Nest’s monthly meeting and socialising.

NRM activism in Skåne

On 2 October, activists from Nest 3 gathered in Svedala and Vellinge to distribute leaflets to the public. In both locations, the symbols of the Resistance Movement were well known to the locals, and people even asked the activists how other members of the Resistance Movement were doing.

In Svedala, staff members from the ICA store came outside as usual to ensure that the Resistance Movement had permission to distribute leaflets in front of the shop. Before the activists had time to respond, customers explained to the two stray ICA women that no permit was needed to distribute leaflets in a public place. The Resistance men also received several positive comments throughout the activity.

After the public actions, the Nest’s monthly meeting was held, with activist Sebastian Elofsson giving a speech about the spirit of self-sacrifice. In addition to dinner with dessert and a speech, the day concluded with the screening of a film – Jonas Nilsson’s Why Is Sweden Multicultural? – a documentary that clearly reveals the forces behind the destruction of Sweden and the other Nordic countries.

Another National Socialist is convicted for self-defence against the opinion police

STATE OPPRESSION. The corrupt judicial system in Sweden has punished another National Socialist because of his opinions. Here, Victor Johansson explains the corrupt police’s tactics during street actions.

Police attack NRM activity in Kalmar, Sweden

In September a National Socialist was convicted for violence against an official after defending himself and his comrades during a protest against a Pride parade in Kalmar, Sweden, in 2017. The incident occurred when the police and an LGBTQP supporter went on a joint attack against the Resistance men, during which a policewoman was knocked over. Motstandsrörelsen.se has been in contact with the now convicted man, who made the following comment:

“On that day over four years ago, the police clearly demonstrated that one of their tasks is to silence organised criticism of the system. Today, the district court demonstrated how the police’s despicable work is rewarded with the payment of damages.

“It may have been unwise to approach the policewoman in a rash manner, but it was caused by a demonstrator pulling at a banner for the second time and still being allowed to continue while the police started detaining the comrades who interrupted her.

“Unsurprisingly, the opponent of free speech walked free after the police had reported her, with the case being dropped shortly thereafter.

“One positive thing about this is that the policewoman can no longer see a Pride march without thinking about the Resistance Movement and the ‘awful attack she was subjected to’ over four years ago.”

This incident is a typical example of what is likely the most common tactic used by the folk traitors’ footsoldiers when they want to remove nationalists and other opponents from public places. As soon as a group of people express opinions the state does not like in a public place, the police arrive at the scene, supposedly to ensure public order. The police then create the conditions that enable provocateurs to start a conflict with the nationalists, usually by turning a blind eye when the provocateurs behave in a way that would see the nationalists arrested. As soon as violence arises between the nationalists and the provocateurs, the police attack the nationalists and remove or arrest them, while the provocateurs are at best arrested and released shortly afterwards, without criminal charges.

Police attack NRM activity in Kalmar, Sweden

The police can then lie to the public via the media by claiming that they were at the scene as protectors of public security, that violence occurred, and that the perpetrators were taken into custody – when the truth is that they were there as political agents with the task of preventing the opponents of the ruling powers from spreading their views, and that they succeeded in doing so via a cunning and underhanded process.

The reason the police do this, instead of directly attacking and arresting the nationalists, is partly because they understand that it reflects badly on them if they initiate violence to silence oppositional views, but also because they often lack the courage to initiate violence themselves when they know they have no legal basis for it. Instead, when the police attack nationalists in response to our defending ourselves against attacks from a third party, a confusing situation arises in which the police’s culpability for silencing dissent becomes much less clear. It also causes a violent tumult, which the police can react to instinctively, instead of having to summon up the courage to go on the attack.

After the police arrest the dissidents, they can, via the strictest possible interpretation of the law, start investigating the dissidents for any crimes committed during the police assault – often violence against an official, as in the case in Kalmar. Violence against an official is a crime that in practice prohibits people from exercising self-defence when attacked by the police, even if the police have no legitimate reason for their actions – again, as in this case. The whole affair becomes a tyrannical process in which the traitors send out their obedient assailants to beat down dissidents, and then further punish the dissidents for their opinions via legal sanctions for insignificant or even fabricated crimes.

This verdict, like so many others before it, is in no way about administering justice or punishing criminality. The purpose of the verdict is purely to hinder the work of the ruling powers’ political opponents, so they can retain power for themselves.

The convicted National Socialist has some closing words:

“I would also like to remind people about the video that shows the Resistance Movement defending itself against political opponents in Oskarshamn a few weeks before the incident in Kalmar. That time, our opponents had to skulk away after failing in their errand, but what would have happened had the police been there?”

Large-scale propaganda offensive in Glostrup

ACTIVISM. Activists conducted a large-scale propaganda drive in Glostrup, Denmark, with a banner drop and widespread sticker and poster activism.

Glostrup NRM activism

An activist group from Denmark’s Nest 2 spread propaganda in the form of stickers, posters and banners in Glostrup, near Copenhagen. A large banner with the message “Stop Anti-White Propaganda” was displayed over a bridge, and over 400 stickers and posters were put up around town.
